Cape Peron, Shoalwater Islands Marine Park

Well it was time for another bushwalk and this time we were heading to the beach, for a nice beachcomb around a place called Cape Peron. As you can see all the rugrats came out for the day's outing, and even before we set off Oscar is having a rest (lazy bugger).

After a short climb up the sandhill we came to an old 'field observation post' which was set up during World War II, and still is in pretty good nic.

Here you can sea Bird Island with Seal Island (smaller one just behind it), and on the left is the bit of Penguin Island.

What a ripper of a view hay but somehow I get the feeling that it is waisted on this little mob of scallywags, as soon as I took this photo they all turned to me and said 'we've been hear for ages can we go now' (ages=twenty seconds).

Here are the mob at the front of the look out post.

We then walked down the other side of the sandhill to a little lookout that they made off a cliff, but as you can see Oscar wasn't gonna go out on a platform with us.

Heres the mob with the viewing platform behind them, it was a beaut little setup and the view over the side was a ripper. In the background is Shoalwater Bay.

The view over the edge, I offered the kiddies a better one but none of them would come near me.... maybe they know me better then I do!

Back on the track.... well okay back on the path we headed along the beach, through the sand dunes to our next stop.

Here we are at the No1 Gun emplacement, which when it was here had a full 270 degree sweep around the whole coast. And just behind the kiddies is the No2 Gun, but thanks to erosion it is slowly sliding down the sandhills (so nobody can get close to it).

And finally we made it to the beach where we had planned to take a swim, and by now the kiddies were all hanging out for their swim.

Here are Jacko and Sarah having a splash in the water, with Harrison running off up the beach to the rocks. They all love the beach and having a beachcomb along the shore, except for one little fat boy.... That's right poor little Oscar who as soon as I took of his shirt, was off up the sand dunes and as far away from us as he could climb. He's getting better but he's still not to sure about this water stuff, but i'm sure it wont be long before i'm pulling him out of the stuff to go home.

Mushroom Rock which lays just off the sandstone cliffs in one of the beaut little bays at the point, ah lives hard hay.

Then we made the walk to John Point and a chance to rest the kiddies and have a little snack, as you can see we were not the only ones at the point. As we had a feed along came this beaut little boat, ah wouldn't it be nice just sitting back on deck, in the lap of luxury. Having a beaut feed and a sip of the odd beer or ten, without a kiddie in ear sight aaaammmm bbbbeeeeeerrrr!!

But back to the real world and we were off along the track, here is Sarah telling me something with Oscar watching on.

One of the many little bays along the bushwalk, 'I reckon their would be good fishing in them their bays I captain'!

But all good bushwalks have to come to an end, and you couldn't have a better ending then laying in a park with a beaut feed of fish 'n chips! With the seagulls in the background, all yelling out 'mine','mine','mine'.
