Sixty-Foot Falls

So our next trip to the bush was to a place called Ellis Brook Valley Reserve, which is about 45 minutes from Perth (or in my old scale about three cans) on the Darling range. On this bushwalk I had three of the little kiddies No1, 2 and 3. Leaving No4 with the old girl. It was going to be the first time we didn't take out old Dora the commodore as she was retired to home duties, and our 'notso' new FORDIE (and yes i did stay up all night thinking that name up!) was going to become our new Bushbasher. We packed out backpack with our normal bushwalking tucker, ham sangers, water bottles and most important thing the cookies.

And with three kiddes in tow off we walk along the rough bush track, this was an interesting walk passing along granite outcrops , Dense scrub as we followed the stream towards the falls.

The walk up wasn't that hard for the kiddies as for yours truly well thats a different story talk about getting old, Hay you know your getting old when a little three year old is almost running up the flamin' hill and your the one slowing the walk down!. Fairdinkum I was stuffed and we were only at the bloody bottom of the falls, Strewth.

So we started back up the flamin' cliff face to the very top of the falls, on the way we passed through more very Dense scrub with plenty of stops to enjoy the view (and to get some air) as we reached the top.

The view from the top was just excellent and would of been great just to sit back and enjoy it, but with three kiddies with the combined brain cells of a cooked pea would love nothin' better then to run and jump of the top just to see what would happen (belive me). So after a nerve racking photo we were off back into the bush and heading back down but on the other side of the falls.

The second walk was a lot better as this is the way I love my bushwalking .... DOWNHILL. We passed through a rare stand of so-called 'Salmon white gum' which just looked like a bunch of flamin' trees to me. Here is a photo that Jacko took of us after we got to the top of the falls. As you can see i'm in very good shape (well round is a shape, yeah), and after a quick rest stop I could of sat there for a flamin' week! we were of again down the track.

Now we came to an old quarry which was once a source of road-making material. The walk down was real beaut and when you get to the bottom they have a beaut open area so we sat down and had our bush tucker. If you look at this photo you can see little Harrison.... now what he loves to do is he just sneak a little bit away from the main bunch, then a little bit more... then OFF HE GOES. Where he runs to he doesn't care he just loves to run away, little mongul. And if you look in this photo you can see he is in his third stage of Sneakness and just as I put down the camera he was off, but didn't go far as he didn't look in front of himself and just fell down the hillside. Just a little bump on the head but enough to get him to settle down.

But we had come to the end of yet another one of our bushwalks and this one was so far our best one yet. I always rate our walks depending on how many kiddies fall asleep on the way home, so this one was a two out of three, You little beauty.
